Seminar on EAC and Comparative Regional Integration Law

The latest seminar organised by the TCGL in cooperation with the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (UDSoL) covered the topic of “East African Community and Comparative Regional Integration Law”. It took place in mid-March 2016 in Dar es Salaam, bringing together about 50 participants from the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law, other universities from Tanzania and further Partner States of the East African Community, and from the Tanganyika Law Society. Additionally, experts from other jurisdictions brought in the integration experiences from Europe as well as from other African economic blocs.

With its highly participatory manner the discussion centred on paths towards a more workable and effective regional cooperation. The presenters and participants agreed that on the importance of harmonised laws, policies and practices for achieving efficient economic integration within East Africa. The seminar also included a thorough look at the organs of the East African Community with a special focus on the East African Court of Justice.

The seminar created an important chance for practical exchange and mutual learning between the participants which may enhance further communication and collaboration.
