Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies
at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law in cooperation with the University of Bayreuth


Course on East African Community Law and the Law of Regional Integration forms the basis of the TGCL curriculum for LLM students. Additional training on transferable skills and methodology as well as a German Language class complete the programme.

Regulations and Examinations

The “General Regulations and Guidelines for Postgraduate Study Programmes” of the University of Dar es Salaam (Directorate of Postgraduate Studies) and those of the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law constitute the legal framework for the programme.

After successful completion of their studies, students will obtain LLM and PhD degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Autumn University

The TGCL invites its students to participate in an Autumn University which is held in Germany once a year. They experience the functioning of the German judiciary, the German political system and the European Union. The programme consists of lectures held at the University of Bayreuth and study excursions to Berlin, Nuremberg and Brussels.

Study Trips

TGCL students undertake a yearly study trip to the capital of one of the five EAC Partner States. Through visits to various legal and other institutions they can compare the way of functioning with that of institutions in their home countries.
